November 2005 Meeting - Application Development with Spring and Hibernate
Hibernate has quickly become an increasingly critical open source project. It provides non-invasive data persistence services while allowing developers to keep Java's OO idiom. No messy interfaces to implement, no specialized class to extend. Simply create a JavaBean and Hibernate will manage its persistence.
The Spring Framework was originally designed to simplify Java Enterprise development by providing an operating environment that reduces efforts required to create productive code. The framework has evolved into a lightweight container that provides a full stack of services including transaction management, data persistence integration, a web MVC framework (yes, another mvc framework), email, web services, etc.
In the next meeting, we will be looking at how Hibernate integrates with Spring. We will explore the issues of using the two technologies including setup, benefits, and plenty of code samples to get you started with your own project.
