By now, you must have heard about Google App Engine (at the very least, you have heard about "The Cloud"). GAE is what is described as a "Platform as a Service". You bring your Java web app and Google provides you with the cloud platform (and infrastructure) that will automatically-scale under heavy load. To achieve this, Google ditched the traditional relational database system in favor or their own homegrown persistence technology called BigTable. For our May's meeting, presenter Tim Crowley will compare traditional JEE and Google App Engine persistence approaches highlighting what you need to know when migrating your app to GAE.
